Your family garden has finally eeked out a few herbs and veggies this season, hooray! It’s no easy feat to make things grow; we give major props to the folks who go full-fledge farmer and spend their days in the dirt. Take a peek at eight families whose life on the land is a labor of love.

Full Circle Farms – Live Oak, Fl

Dennis, head farmer at Full Circle Farms grew up on a farm. Later in life, when he discovered alternative health and healing, the idea of “we are what we eat” really hit home. And so, since 2002, Full Circle Farms has been a source for chemical-and pesticide-free grass-fed beef and milk products, forest-raised pork, poultry, eggs, produce, preserves, pantry items, drinks and more.

For the family of Full Circle Farms, being able to work together every day, and hear stories about how their foods helps to heal others is the biggest reward of farm life. The downside? Not making very much money. Dennis says “I have a friend that makes so much in networking, sometimes I wonder why I continue doing what I am doing!”

Kids Lily, Caroline, Stella, Daniel, Mathias and Tessa help everyday and even have their own enterprises. At 14, Lily raises lambs and milk goats and has work horses she uses to mow grass. Her siblings have other jobs, such as a Salatin-style eggmobile for producing eggs, raising ducks, and of course, milking cows on a daily basis. Since there are so many cows on the property, they are a family favorite, and now, the girls on the farm each have their own riding horses—Tally, Red and Ray.

Full Circle Farms loves visitors, and folks come for tours all the time. They sell everything they produce to the end consumer, so for Dennis and his family, it’s all about building a relationship with their customers.
