According to a Reuters report, the company is developing meal kits that require no refrigeration and can be heated in a matter of minutes in the microwave. With a shelf life of over a year, not only can they easily arrive in the mail, but they will last much longer than any packaged meal on the market.Utilizing MATS (or microwave assisted thermal sterilization) technology, the ready-to-eat meal packages are cooked using pressurized water heated by microwaves. Unlike traditional packaged meals, which use a longer boiling method, these meals promise to taste fresher and retain more of their natural nutrients. No word yet on whether Amazon will definitely move forward with these new products or when, but between its recent Whole Foods takeover and plans to get into the cook-it-yourself meal kit game, the company is definitely looking to revolutionize how people buy and eat food.Would you order ready-to-eat meals from Amazon?
