A lovey is generally a small blanket or stuffed animal that can be used to signal sleep and provide comfort to babies when they are sleeping alone.
While many pediatricians recommend waiting until 12 months of age before leaving a sleeping baby unattended with a lovey, you can certainly start offering a cuddly toy during your little one’s bedtime routine to get them accustomed to it.
Try having it with you while you snuggle up for story time or lullabies. The object will start to smell like you; and with time, your baby will grow to connect it with your soothing bedtime rituals.
If you’re not comfortable leaving the lovey in bed with your babe just yet, simply set it aside before laying them down to bed.
