Giving birth is a rewarding, life-changing moment in a parent’s life. However, the unexpected can happen in an instant. In this Meet the Fam, we caught up with the Honeywood family to hear about their story of perseverance. From open heart surgery to kissy faces, read how baby Joshua gives a whole new definition to the word “strength.”
Tell us about your family
When I was pregnant with Joshua, I was considered a high risk pregnancy. I spent a few times in the hospital because of concerns that blood was not flowing to him and one time I thought I was having a miscarriage. My doctors watched me closely and they planned an induction, but Joshua had other plans. I went to a regular appointment and his heart rate started dropping and the doctor said it was time.
Joshua was born at 3lbs 6 oz and 15 inches long. While he was in the NICU, I found out he had a heart defect and head trauma. I was a mess, because I didn’t know what was going to happen to my baby. But Joshua is a fighter and made it through open heart surgery. He now has a team of doctors watching his development, but is great and smiles all the time.
What is your favorite moment you’ve captured and why?
My favorite moments are when he looks at me a laugh because I know he’s telling me he is ok and not to worry. My son has a fun personality which I love.
I also love the moments that show his growth and learning to do things, like brushing his teeth or kissy faces. I just want to capture every moment with him.
If you could give yourself one piece of advice before your son came along, what would it be?
You will make mistakes and it’s ok.
What upcoming milestone are you excited about?
His first birthday, because it show that he is one strong cookie.
