Have a tinybean that’s slow to warm up at social events or has a difficult time participating in certain activities?
Experts say it’s important to:
(1) Prepare sensitive kids ahead of time – Discuss what your child can expect, read books on the topic and show videos + pictures if applicable.
(2) Practice – continue to set up play dates and go to birthday parties. Resist the urge to keep your kiddo home, as that will only reinforce the anxiety.
(3) Empathize, but don’t exacerbate – Aim to validate your little one’s feelings without heightening worries with your tone of voice or body language
With time and positive parental role modeling, stressors should fade and kids will learn how to cope with their fears.
