What do you get when Chicago’s kindie rock musicians pool together for a great cause? Band Together: A Chicago Kindie Sampler, an awesome new CD featuring never-before-released songs by eight local artists. Profits from the CD — and the rockin’ release concert, happening March 8 at Lincoln Hall — go to Intonation Music Workshop, an organization devoted to music education for area children. Flip through our album to see the participating musicians and how they make an impact on the Chicago kids scene.

Istvan & His Imaginary Band

Their music style: Rock peppered with other influences, including rockabilly, country, surf, folk and punk. Their song on Band Together: "Opossum" was born when Istvan read in one of his daughter's books that the possum was the only marsupial in North and South America. Intrigued, he did more reading and discovered other things that totally made him empathize with an animal thought to have a bad reputation. He decided to write a song that served as an anthem for what had become his new favorite animal -- it's happy and rocking and hints at nighttime. What's next for Istvan & His Imaginary Band: This summer, they're playing all kinds of shows throughout Chicago and beyond. And he'll also be recording songs for his second full-length kids' record that should be finished around Thanksgiving.
