Rob Kassinger – Double Bass Player in Chicago Symphony Orchestra

Recognize Rob? He takes one of Chicago's most prolific stages quite regularly. Rob plays double bass in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and, before that, was a jazz and rock performer. And long before that, he was a 13-year-old boy with a dream of being a professional bassist. In addition to his role at CSO, Rob teaches bass at DePaul University and gives private lessons at his home in Lincoln Square. Rob’s home is constantly swirling with music; his wife is violinist Carmen Kassinger and his two daughters, Ava (12) and Tess (9), are also budding musicians. Performing in the CSO is a dream come true for Rob because he is, “…in the process of time travel; bringing alive a creative statement that was written centuries ago.” When he isn’t performing or teaching, Rob is chilling at the beach in Michigan with his daughters or visiting with family in Atlanta.
