My husband and I have taken our kids to Didier Farms every year since they were babies. During Pumpkinfest, the farm boasts hayrides, mini-corn mazes, pony rides—and our favorite—pint-size rides that are perfect for the under-6 set. After the little ones pick out a pumpkin from the patch, the family can grab apple cider and a doughnut from the bakery. Fall also means long walks at Middlefork Savanna in Lake Forest, where the colorful foliage highlights the serious autumnal beauty, Nearby is the Wildlife Discovery Center at Elawa Farm, where kids can get an up-close look at various amphibians, owls—and even a bobcat.
