The Secret to Non-Stop Fun on Mondays

You woke up late, pulled an outfit from the dryer, tried to remember if your kid ate breakfast, and bolted out the door to get him to school — but not before you tripped over LEGOs. Theater Break: “That’s Weird, Grandma”

This clever kids' show is a collaboration between Chicago Public Schools students and professional performers. The Barrel of Monkeys theater company leads creative writing workshops in low-income schools throughout the city. The resulting imaginative, quirky tales spun from the fingers of 3rd-5th graders then become fodder for Monday night performances that range from hilarious to offbeat to soulful. Tip: Say “not by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin” at the box office for discounted tickets.
