Our Editor’s Afternoon on Southport Avenue

In what seemed like the blink of an eye, Southport Avenue in Lakeview became the most family-friendly street in Chicago. We spent a recent afternoon there and soaked up everything from a new community market to a hidden-gem park to an out-of-this-world barbershop. Flip through our photo album to see what editor Kelly and her two five-year-olds did on their afternoon blitz. Then get out there and choose your own adventure.

Playground: Sheil Park

A gated playground set back from the street = every city mom's dream. We found it at <a target="_blank" href="http://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/parks/Sheil-Park/&quot; target="_blank">Sheil Park</a>. Even the promise of a candy store in our future couldn't tear us away from the climb-through rings and preschooler-friendly ladders. The shaded area near the entrance was a bonus. Find it at 3505 N. Southport Ave. (312-742-7826).fuck
