"We can't sit still during summer. So while I love the idea of plopping on a beach with nothing to do but stare at the water and build sandcastles, we are actually usually doing quite the opposite! Summer for our family means visiting as many museums as we can; we recently took the boys to the Modern Wing at The Art Institute of Chicago and they loved it (a 7-year-old's take on modern art can be pretty entertaining). We also are busy blazing through parks and obsess over Oz Park in Lincoln Park because of the cool tin sculptures of all of the Oz characters. Quick road trips are on the docket, too, like Starved Rock State Park in Utica; and Galena for the chance to see pretty rolling hills. Also, I will never -- NEVER -- say "no" to going to Wisconsin Dells. Cheese, water slides, kitsch ... what more do you want?"
