D.C.’s First Escape Room for Kids

Interactive puzzle rooms are popping up all across the country (and they’re a huge hit!). But up until now these real-life Sherlock Holmes escape mysteries have been limited for grown-up audiences only. D.C.’s Escape the Classroom is the exception.

A Family Affair
The Escape Lounge on H Street offers two kid-friendly escape games. Escape the Classroom is specifically designed for kids ages 5-8. It’s a game of clue where kids are locked in a mock-classroom (eek!) with puzzles, riddles, and clues that lead to the key to “escape.” It’s a fun, hands-on game that will challenge the Littles and teach collaboration. They also offer a game designed for the whole family—Escape the Oval Office, which features clues that are mixed with history and pop culture.

Party Time
Looking for a new way to celebrate Junior’s birthday bash? Look no further. Escape the Lounge D.C. offers birthday party packages, too. How it works: Kids are broken up into teams of up to 10. Each team has a half hour to complete their “classroom escape.” Escape the Classroom offers linear clues where one clue leads to another, so the game is similar to an indoor scavenger hunt. Party packages are $475 for 15 kids and 10 adults or $675 for 25 kids and 15 adults for two hours.

While You Wait
The escape rooms that cater to kids and families have  a small waiting area where mini sleuthers (and their grownups) who are not in the game room can write on a chalkboard wall, color, dress up or use a karaoke machine. Good luck getting them out of this waiting room!
