Our Compliments to the (Little) Chef: Courtesy of Cookology

We know, we know: your kid makes the BEST plastic eggs-over-easy this side of the Potomac, and you live to sample bite after bite of his invisible–but incredibly creamy–macaroni and cheese. If you’re ready to bring your Jacque Pepin’s culinary talents to the next level, however (breakfast in bed, perhaps?), consider exploring one of Cookology’s cooking classes.

Located in the Dulles Town Center Mall, Cookology offers a range of classes (and summer classes through the week of August 15). Most are geared toward children ages 8 to 11 or 12 to 17, but there are occasional offerings for kids as young as 3—and cooking themes range from “Handmade Pizza” and “Cupcake Wars” to “Fruit Sushi” and “French Cuisine.” Some classes are one-time-only Mommy/Daddy and me events, while others are four or five-day kids-only camps. Young chefs will learn safety tips and knife and heating skills (not to mention following directions, math, patience, and newfound respect for your own efforts at getting dinner on the table each night). There are even gluten free options for tykes on restricted diets. Check out their full class list to see what might pique your cherub’s interest.

Fees range from $39 to $330, depending on the course and required materials/ingredients. Summer is Cookology’s fave time of the year, as kids are out of school and get really excited about the things they learn. The kids get so hype that often times they return to the store with their parents to show off the cooking skills they’ve been using at home.
