Getting nervous kids to the dentist isn’t always easy, but one New York pediatric dental office has a doggone adorable way to get kids in for visits. Once a week, the folks at Pittsford Pediatric Dentistry bring in a team of therapy dogs to help young patients who need a furry dose of unconditional love along with their dental procedures.

“Our biggest problem now is many parents just want to come on the dog days, and we’re limited on when these trainers can come in,” Doron Kochman, DDS, owner of Pittsford Pediatric Dentistry told WHAM News in Rochester. “But it’s a wonderful problem to have, I think.”

The dogs are there to help get kids through their appointments, and parents say the service has done wonders for their kids.

“When he was little, he had a lot of anxiety,” Christie Spring told WHAM, “and since he’s been coming he’s actually enjoyed coming to the dentist. I have no more tears and it’s something that he actually looks forward too.”

Kochman said the dogs help kids maintain positive feelings about the dentist. “Their attitudes about dentistry become positive, and as they grow they’ll keep that,” he said.
