But for most of us, the cost of such meal kits — even those that still have to be mixed, stirred and cooked upon delivery — is just too high to make it realistic.Startup company Marley Spoon wants to change that with the launch of its newest meal kit delivery service, called Dinnerly, which it calls the “most affordable meal kit” on the market. Even better, it’s designed with families in mind, with kid-friendly choices and 30-minute recipes.Like many of its competitors (Plated, Blue Apron and Purple Carrot), Dinnerly offers pre-proportioned ingredients and easy-to-follow recipes so that busy cooks need only to put the ingredients together and (if necessary) cook them up to have dinner ready. But unlike those brands, which cost anywhere from $8-$12 a serving, Dinnerly kits cost $5 a serving; its “Family Box,” for instance, includes three meals a week, with four portions per meal, and costs $68.99.photo: genevievesage via InstagramIn comparison, Marley and Spoon’s premium brand, Martha & Marley Spoon, developed in a partnership with Martha Stewart, costs $106.80 for a similar family plan. Dinnerly says it achieves its lower costs by using “digital recipe cards instead of paper, fewer ingredients per dish (which means less chopping and cleaning), simple packaging and no fancy marketing campaigns.”“Dinnerly customers will receive a weekly menu of three picky-eater approved dishes designed to suit adults and kids alike, including classics like Spaghetti and Spicy Sausage Meatballs, Cheesy Chipotle Beef Tacos, Pan Roasted Chicken with Potatoes and Spinach and Pepper Jack Turkey Burgers with Caramelized Onions and Sweet Potato Fries,” the company said in a Tech Crunch article.Sounds good to us!Have you tried meal delivery kits?
