Jude Law as Captain Hook? Sure, why not

No one does a live action adaptation like Disney, so you can imagine how cool its upcoming film Peter Pan & Wendy looks. Actually, you don’t have to imagine it, because the trailer went live today. You probably never knew you wanted to see Jude Law as Captain Hook, but trust us, you do. And Black-ish and Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi makes her debut as Tinker Bell! Alexander Molony plays the role of Peter Pan, the boy who can fly.

You might just believe you can fly after you watch this magical trailer.

“What is it that you’re afraid of my love?”

“Perhaps I don’t want to grow up.” Has there ever been a more relatable line in a movie? “We wanted to invigorate our retelling with emotional sincerity, an open heart, and a grand yearning for adventure,” the movie’s director, David Lowery said in a statement. “Hundreds of incredible artists spent many years bringing this film to the screen; I’m excited for audiences to see their work, to go on this ride, and to rediscover an evergreen tale from a new perspective.”

Shahidi is the first person of color to ever play Tinkerbell. The actress told Extra seeing herself was Tinkerbell “surreal,” saying, “To take on such an iconic character, I feel like I still haven’t wrapped my head around it.”

Peter Pan & Wendy focuses on the character of Wendy, a young girl afraid to leave her childhood home and grow up, played by Ever Anderson. She meets Peter Pan and follows Peter and Tinkerbell to Neverland. The trailer gives us a first glimpse of Jude Law as Captain Hook, who becomes obsessed with finding Peter and the rest of the Lost Boys after Peter cut off his hand and fed it to a crocodile. Hook’s blundering sidekick Mr. Smee will be played by Jim Gaffigan.

Peter Pan & Wendy streams exclusively on Disney+ on April 28th.
