4 Simple Ways for Busy Moms to Take Care of Themselves

There’s no denying it: moms put others, especially their kiddos, first. Since May 8 is National Women’s Checkup Day, we’re here with a gentle (seriously, no nagging) reminder that making your own health and well-being a priority is one of the best things you can do for your family. While a bubble bath might be your go-to treat, the following four things are easier than you think and suitable for every woman, any (or every) day. 1. Schedule a check-up.

If it’s your annual, a routine physical or just a well-check, stop putting it off (we’re looking at you) and book it today. You wouldn’t put off your kid’s checkup, so don’t put yours off. Get your PAP and your breast exam, and talk to your doctor about your stress levels or any health concerns. 

2. Exercise!

Yes, we know, you’ve heard this one before. We’re not saying you need to hit the gym five times a week, but we are suggesting that you reconsider your approach to exercise as a priority. Don’t think of it as “selfish” or “time-away” from your family. Think of it as an investment in your long-range plan to spend more time with your family. Something as simple as going for a walk on your lunch break or taking an evening jog after the kids go to bed will help clear your mind and invigorate your body. 3. Meditate?

No, you do not have to sit criss-cross applesauce for an hour clearing your mind. To be honest, we’d all settle for 10 minutes spacing out on a park bench. The trick is to give yourself a break now and then and clear your mind from your ongoing lists of to-dos. We tried this app for 5-minute meditations and loved it!

4. Journaling

It may sound corny but by writing down your thoughts, dreams or even just your to-do lists, taking a few minutes to take notes on your daily life can give you perspective (if you can read your own handwriting). You can even write down funny quotes by your kid or reminders to yourself. Just spend a few minutes thinking of your life as worthy of recording.
