Psychologists Say It May Make You Happier If you’re looking for a place to grab a bite with the littles, 34th Street in Madrona is about as good as it gets. There’s a slew of family eateries mixed in with small boutique shops that make the three-block-long neighborhood totally do-able with toddlers on foot or in a stroller. If you’re feeling ambitious, follow 34th all the way down to Lake Washington (about one mile). The climb back up will make you feel you’ve earned that bacon cheeseburger from Madrona Eatery & Ale House, the huevos rancheros from Hi Spot Cafe (get there early to avoid the lines) or tofu scramble from St. Clouds. Afterwards, walk over to Cupcake Royale across from the Madrona playground for a sweet treat and browse the cool boutiques including the recently relocated Buggy (gently used kids consignment now all on sale), Two Owls (organic kids and women’s clothing), Precocious Toys and Hitchcock (enviable handbags and jewelry).
