California State Railroad Museum – Sacramento, Ca

Little conductors will love to explore over 20 restored locomotives and other railroading artifacts around the museum—a favorite being a walk through the restored (and gently rocking) Pullman sleeper car and the Santa Fe diner car complete with pristine crystal, silver table settings, and authentic menus. The fascinating story that unfolds at the California State Railroad Museum is one of economic and social development in the state, thanks to the power of trains. New exhibits include Without Words, which focuses on the nonverbal aspects of the railroad, and Fast Tracks: The World of High Speed Rail.

Insider Tip: Be sure not to miss the impressive collection of small-scale trains and the multiple Thomas the Train play tables on the upper level.
