Get Ready to Cry, Because Geoffrey Just Waved Goodbye

Geoffrey the Giraffe just bid a fond farewell to his loyal fans as the last of the Toys”R”Us doors are closed. Yes, it’s a sad, sad day. But we’ve known that the end of an era has been coming for some time now. When the beloved toy retailer announced that it had filed for bankruptcy in September, it was the beginning of the end. While it didn’t happen instantly, the final days of Toys”R”Us have sadly come and gone.

Not only has Toys”R”Us closed, but their iconic mascot Geoffrey the Giraffe has gone the way of the dinosaurs. And it’s not just our kids who are crying. Chances are you remember the lovable, long-necked mascot from your own childhood, too. As if the thought of never seeing Geoffrey again wasn’t sad enough on its own, a recent Facebook post from an employee of a Toys”R”Us store in Waterbury, Connecticut will definitely make you shed a tear.

Toys”R”Us employee Rene Johnpiere posted a pic of Geoffrey alone in a completely empty store. The giraffe, presumably ready for retirement, was dressed in his vacation-wear and toting a suitcase, waving goodbye for the last time.

While the last closings of the decades-old toy retailer aren’t surprising, this last-in-the-store lonely photo says it all. And we’re grabbing for the big box of tissues right now.
