Gnome Spotting Best Movies for Gnome Lovers

There’s something so irresistible about the gnome, belly protruding and pointy hat sticking up from garden beds, that brings a smile to everyone’s face. This folkloric creature can be found on the big screen. Read on for some new films and oldies-but-goodies that will please any gnome lover, great or small.

GnomeGnomeo & Juliet (2011)
The Shakespeare-inspired animated flick is basically the same concept as Romeo and Juliet, with Montague gnomes vs. the Capulet gnomes. Spoiler alert: this one doesn’t have a tragic ending. Watch for Gnomeo & Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes which is currently in the works. Best for ages 6 and up.

The Gnome Mobile (1967)
If you don’t know the title track to this delightful vintage Disney film, you soon will. The plot features a millionare and his grandchildren who come to the aide of some wayward gnomes. All ages, but the plot may be lost on 5 and under.

The Smurfs
We’re not just smurfing about the recent CGI movies: it’s the  classic cartoon that was a staple of the 1980s child that we think your kiddos ages 4 and up will love. While the Smurfs don’t identify as gnomes per say, their behavior as tiny, magical, gnome-like creatures who live in mushroom houses is enough to get a pass. Little ones might not appreciate Gargamel’s desire to capture the Smurfs and cook them in order to turn them into gold.
