Here’s How to Snag an Invite to Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding

So you say you’d be totally into an invitation to Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle? Well, more than 2,000 ‘regular’ people are getting just that. Yep. Even though royal weddings are typically for…um, royalty (both the regal kind and the celebrity type), Prince Harry and his soon-to-be bride are doing things a bit differently.

The royal couple isn’t exactly inviting a few thousand strangers to their nuptials. But they do want the public to share in their major life event — and in a way that’s more intimate than watching it on TV or online.

The couple recently announced, via the Kensington Palace Twitter account, that they plan to invite 2,640 “members of the public” to Windsor Castle for their big day. While the extra guests won’t be at the ceremony itself, they will have access to the Castle’s grounds in order to watch Prince Harry and Markle’s arrival and departure.

If you’re wondering how the couple is selecting their additional wedding guests, they’re starting with 1,200 people selected by the Lord Lieutenants’ of the UK (these are royal representatives in each county). The idea here is that the Lord Lieutenants will choose young people who have in some way served their communities, showing some serious leadership abilities.

And who will the rest of the invites go to? Sorry, not to any of us over here in the U.S. The royals are handing them out to members of local charities, children from two local schools (The Royal School, Great Park, Windsor and St. George’s School, Windsor Castle), Windsor Castle community members and members of The Royal Households and Crown Estate.

What do you think of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle inviting over 2,000 people to attend their wedding? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
