Andy & Evan knows how to create practical, stylish, and cute boys clothes like nobody’s business. It’s a line for little gentlemen designed by actual gentlemen and it’s your pick for best “Most Awesome Clothing Line for Boys.”

Evan Hakalir (yes, that Evan!) recently took the time to tell us how this dapper company was born, dish some advice for new business owners, and more. Read on:

Red Tricycle: Your community recently voted you “Most Awesome.” What do you think your customers value most about your business?

Evan Hakalir: Customers value our fashionable, practical, and great-fitting clothing for boys. There aren’t any other children’s clothing companies that focus on boys alone. For that reason alone (among many others!) we do it much better.

RT: What inspired you to start your business?

EH: My partner and I had both worked in the financial sector and were products of the financial collapse of 2008. We started a custom shirt company for men shortly thereafter, taking charge of our “own destiny.” We thought we had found our calling in life when that business took off, but after my business partner (i.e. Andy) had a son, we started tinkering with some great clothing concepts for his son–and the rest is history!

RT: Any advice for new business owners just getting started?

EH: Work hard. Be flexible. Never accept the status quo or “NO” for an answer. And lastly, you need to suspend disbelief, because everyone will tell you that what you’re doing can’t be done, and if it could’ve been done, someone would’ve done it already.

RT: Can you give us one tip for balancing entrepreneurship with parenthood?

EH: I’m not yet a parent, but what I admire about my business partner and the relationship he has with his family is that everything he does is for them, and he always answers the phone when they call. I don’t think there is a perfect balance, since they should always come first.

RT: What is your proudest moment as a business owner?

EH: My proudest moment is in seeing my team grow together both socially and professionally. Thankfully, I get to witness this on a daily basis. Our tight-knit group can solve any problem since we’re all working towards the same goal, and that’s producing and delivering a great product.
