Owner Lucia Berman Rossi recently took the time to chat with us about what makes Tiny Hanger so awesome, the inspiration behind the store, and more. Read on:

Red Tricycle: Congratulations on being voted “Most Awesome” by your community! What do you think your customers value most about your business?

Lucia Berman Rossi: Customers love that we are a unique children’s boutique. We bring all types of brands to the area including a large selection of handmade and local. We find products that make sense, have a good value and will last. Our quality is good and our style is fantastic! People also love our customer service. We are happy to give a balloon out to every kid that comes in. We read and play with kids while parents have time to shop. We have some kiddos that come each night on their way home just to say hi to our friendly staff.

RT: What inspired you to start your business?

LBR: I was a social worker in my prior work life and was home for a few years with my daughter. She was off to school and I needed to get to work. I could not find unique clothing for her when I would shop so I collected business cards of businesses I liked for several years and when I was ready to open the shop I had tons of great clothing to bring to the area. We also wanted to bring the handmade goods that everyone sees online to the brick and mortar shops. I love making things and wanted to be a place where “designers begin their lines”. I thought this would be easier than a full time job and, actually, in some ways it is. It feels like an extension of my family’s life and my daughter likes helping out.

RT: Any advice for new business owners just getting started?

LBR: Don’t wait until everything is perfect. Just start.

RT: Can you give us one tip for balancing entrepreneurship with parenthood?

LBR: Balancing work with parenthood is hard, no matter what your job is. In my case, I have an awesome husband who pitches in and works the shop when I need a day off. One customer even told me she really liked the male intern I had working the other day! But, I always feel like there is more to do in life and at home and some things don’t get done. So, my tip is to find your time that you are most productive and get your to-do list done then!

RT: What is your proudest moment as a business owner or parent?

LBR: I just love when customers tell us they love our store. Last year, a customer came in right after the holidays and said her mother bought her a bunch of things from our store. She was so amazed her mom picked out these amazing outfits, that she had to come in and see where she bought everything. I love when I can hear customers outside the shop saying, “I wish they had that in my size”. We sell what we love and customers can tell.

RT: Is there a special offer you’d like to include for Red Tricycle readers?:

LBR: Yes! Red Tricycle readers can receive 10% off using coupon code RedTri (valid until 2/28/14).
