The summer hits just keep coming. First, much of the country is in the midst of unprecedented heat waves, not to mention we are all grappling with the rising costs of gasoline and groceries. Now? Klondike is hitting us where it hurts: the Choco Taco.

After 40 years on the market, the company has announced its discontinuing the beloved ice cream taco that has carried us through many a childhood summer and gas station pit stops. Per the Klondike website, “Over the past 2 years, we have experienced an unprecedented spike in demand across our portfolio and have had to make very tough decisions to ensure availability of our full portfolio nationwide. A necessary but unfortunate part of this process is that we sometimes must discontinue products, even a beloved item like Choco Taco. We know this may be very disappointing.”

How dare you.

Sure, we may not have indulged in the crispy, creamy taco-shaped ice cream in quite some time, but we loved knowing the Choco Taco would be there waiting for us when the cravings struck. It appears many people feel the same and have taken to Twitter to voice their downright disappointment at the news.

Amidst the wailing, Choco Taco lovers are holding out hope. Earlier this year, the brand partnered with Taco Bell to bring the dessert back to menus after 7 years away. Proponents are hoping that the chocolately taco will rise from the dead and be a staple at Taco Bells in the coming months, much like the return of the Mexican pizza.

In the meantime, it’s time to scour your local grocery store and hit up the ice cream man to stock up on Choco Tacos. This summer is officially the end of an era.
