Well, Los Angeles moms and dads the new year has arrived (again) so this year instead of letting that new years resolution fall by the wayside, why not follow through with that “fit back into my skinny jeans” fitness goal. Breakthu Fitness – Pasadena
This full service boutique fitness gym started by husband and wife team Phil and Michelle Dozios, is best known for it’s individualized attention and that everybody knows your name small town feel. Voted best gym in Pasadena by the Pasadena Weekly last year, childcare (ages 6 months to 12 years) is provided by experienced childcare professionals and there is a special workout program just for kids ages six and up. Crescenta-Cañada YMCA- La Cañada
This very family-oriented gym has everything a parent could want. Two free hours a day of childcare (for ages 6 months to 10 years) is included with membership and the playroom is equipped with a multitude toys, books, arts and crafts and a great staff that works to keep the kids entertained. The facility offers gymnastics and swim lessons for kids and in the summer months the place is buzzing with activities for young summer campers. A definite plus- the gym has separate boys/dads, girls/moms, and a family locker room, in addition to the men’s and woman’s locker rooms.

Equinox – West LA
This cushy gym is known for it’s upscale facilities and chic clientele and it’s excellent childcare services (for ages 3 months to 9 years) provided by trained early childhood education specialists. The facility boasts a high teacher/kid ratio, so reservations are a must.

Fit Happens –  Los Angeles
With several locations including Burbank, Sherman Oaks, Mount Washington, Silver Lake and Agoura Hills, Fit Happens caters to anyone with a desire to get fit and a strong work ethic. They offer Personal Training, Race Training, Boot Camps, without the hostile drill instructors, and Nutrition Counseling.  Locations in Burbank, Silver Lake and Mount Washington offer childcare services for a small fee.

Westside Family YMCA – West LA
This gym is a popular place for Westside families who not only appreciate the full-service gym, but also love the many kid-friendly activities offered.  Not only do they offer free childcare (for ages 6 months to 10 years) while moms and dads workout, they also offer Itty Bitty Sports for kids ages 3-5, and family group activities including camping, hiking, and music and play groups for kids of all ages. Parents get to enjoy a wide variety of group fitness classes led by top-notch teachers.

Total Woman Gym & Day Spa – Torrance
In addition to kick-your-butt fitness classes in just about everything from pilates to strength training, Total Woman also boasts an impressive spa complete with massage therapy, facial treatments, waxing, you name it. Even better? They have a clean and well supervised play area for the kiddos that makes it easy to bring your kids (2 months – 12 years) to the gym with you…and stick around for a little well-deserved “mommy time” after your workout. They offer multiple payment programs for their childcare: The pay-as-you-go plan costs $4 for 2 hours of childcare per visit, with an second child for $3, and each additional at $2 more. Or, you can opt for a $40 pass that gets deducted every time you stop by. They also have a $25 unlimited pass for one child.

Hollywood Wilshire YMCA – Hollywood
Clubhouse YMCA offers arts and crafts, games, music and other group activities for kids (for ages 3-10) while parents work up a sweat on the treadmill, take a kickboxing class, or breath deep in any number of the great yoga classes the facility offers. There are also fun classes like belly dancing and creative dance, where kids and parents can workout together.

L.A. Athletic Club – Downtown LA
Located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, this workout facility is known for it’s beautiful location- in a 1912 historic Beaux Arts building that boasts a swimming pool on the sixth floor, and it’s excellent fitness center. The old-style club has a childcare center (for ages 6mo. and up), manned by childcare professionals and completely stocked with plenty of games and toys to keep children happy and also runs several athletic programs for kids including fitness classes, swimming lessons, and movie and pool party nights.

Equinox – Woodland Hills
If you are looking for a full-service, upscale gym with good childcare in the San Fernando Valley, there aren’t too many places that parallel Equinox. Kiddos get to hang out in the Kids Club (for ages 4-12) while parents, take palates, or yoga, or endure boot camp work out. The childcare staff is cheerful and kids are kept busy and happy while parents get to enjoy an exceptionally beautiful view of the Santa Monica Mountains while working up a sweat.
