The Best New Things for LA Kids (And Parents) of 2015

Want to know what we love about parenting in LA? That it just keeps getting better. New play places, world-class kid-entrancing museums, art spots, eateries (with a heavy emphasis on sweeteries), baby food and food delivery spots all popped up in unexpected places. These are our picks for the 20 best things to happen to Los Angeles in 2015 that made it an even more amazing place to raise kids.

A closed favorite got a total revamp, a brand new museum opened up downtown and a longtime favorite opened up a new theater with a show that will blow you away. If you haven’t been, all three of these museums are worth a visit, as soon as you can get there.

The Broad Museum: The Broad contemporary art museum opened in downtown LA on September 20. With over 2000 works of art thoughtfully displayed, there’s plenty to entrance your brood. Two tips: reserve your tickets now (the lines are long if you don’t have a reservation) and when you get there, head straight to the Infinity Mirrored Room.

The Petersen Museum: Your young Dale Earnhardt Jr. spent a whole year missing his favorite car museum. You did too, since it had such a fantastic Kid’s Playspace on the 3rd floor. But it’s back, and from the cool new look on the outside to the Pixar Cars focused tour of cars for kids inside, it’s well worth a visit. And probably membership acquisition, if anyone in the family is wacky for wheels.

The New Theater at the Tar Pits: While we’ve always adored poking in the tar pits, programs at the tar pits and had a real soft spot for the museum itself, there wasn’t a lot of there there, if you know what we mean. That’s changed with the revamping and opening of the old theater, which now shows a super cool 3-D adventure daily.
