I Melt With You
The cool new Small Batch is actually the 2nd location for this artisanal shop; the first opened in 2014 within Brooke & Nick’s Playa Del Rey culinary compound, Playa Provisions. That would be restaurateur power couple Brooke Williamson (Top Chef Season 14 winner) and Nick Roberts. This crazy talented husband and wife team are no strangers to sweet (and savory) success, demonstrating over and over that two great minds can (and will) create great tastes together. Not only will this standalone shop be the main ice cream production hub for both locations, it will also serve as the primary flavor creation location (the salted dulce swirl isn’t going to invent itself).

Just in Time for Halloween: Cereal Killers (and More)
Speaking of flavors, Small Batch’s specialty is their masterful house-made blends of nostalgic ice cream tastes with bursts of the unique. For a playful twist on breakfast cereals, dig into a scoop (or three) of “Cereal Killer,” which tastes like if the milk from Lucky Charms or Fruity Pebbles was made into ice cream. If you’ve got a hankering for the taste of homemade Banana Cream Pie but aren’t ready to break out grandma’s recipe book, head over to Small Batch for their Banana Cream Pie ice cream that is not only mind-blowing but will have you dreaming about it days later.

Vegan eaters (or those with dairy aversions) will love the Vegan Chocolate Coconut ice cream made with coconut milk, as well as the deliciously refreshing sorbet options (the Mango Chamoy is amazing). If your tiny tasters aren’t super adventurous, not to worry as this shop has perfectly crafted traditional flavors up for grabs such as Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter, Bubblegum, Vanilla and even soft serve selections.

Shake It up Baby
Ice cream is clearly the main attraction, but the Small Batch team have really gone above and beyond to offer even more palate-pleasers than the standard simple scoop. Custom sundaes, ice cream cookie sandwiches, White Chocolate Thai Tea Pops and Mint Oreo ice cream pie are only a few examples of the frozen goodies available. Not craving something cold? No problem! Fresh pastries from Playa Provisions are also on the menu along with super fun novelties like cake pops, white chocolate pop-rocks bark and chocolate-dipped bananas covered in sprinkles.

In My Hood
Location is everything here and this trendy neighborhood is bursting with great options for both kids and parents. Bowl a couple strings across the street at Bowlero and then take you and your fun-seekers over to Small Batch for a cone. Grab a latte next door at Venice Grind before popping into the ice cream shop and add a pastry for you (pairs perfectly with your caffeine) to your kids’ sundae order. Make it a family outing on Sundays and stop by the Mar Vista Farmer’s market (just a couple of short blocks away from the shop) where a Small Batch pop-up ice cream cart will be on-hand serving up some of their tasty treats from 9 a.m.–2 p.m.  We can find a million reasons to drop by…

You Say It’s Your Birthday
If your kids have had their fill of indoor trampoline parks or bounce houses, consider throwing them a Small Batch ice cream party for their next birthday shin-dig. There is an expansive back patio with 3 large picnic tables just perfect for a private event for pint-sized partiers. If your birthday squirrels are looking for more of a unique twist on a party dessert, why not consider Small Batch’s Unicorn Sundae? That’s right: Unicorn. Sundae. This dish features 10 scoops of ice cream, a variety of customized toppings, whipped cream, hot fudge, cherries and a chocolate dipped waffle uni-cone with a sparkler on top. Sundaes like these will really turn up the volume on your little’s birthday bash and, at $50 a pop, we think it’s well worth its weight in fudge.  If you’ve got a more traditional partier, they also make awesome ice cream cakes and pies.

Small Batch is a perfect marriage of creative culinary savvy (did we mention winning Top Chef?) and a friendly neighborhood ice cream joint vibe that will have you and your brood grinning from cone to cone. This place should be high on everyone’s (frozen) bucket list!

Know Before You Go
Scoops start at $4 for a single and go up to $8 for a triple shot of goodness. Ice cream cakes are $55 and the fine folks at Small Batch need at least a week advance notice to create the perfect one for your needs. Can’t get enough of your favorite flavors? You can stock your freezer full, with ice cream pints to go for $10 each.
