Score a Perfect 10 With the UCLA Women’s Gymnastics Team

Doesn’t it seem like just yesterday that we all fell in love with the fierce five and were cheering them on to Olympic gold? Surely, you and your kids practiced your “not impressed” faces in the mirror à la McKayla Maroney, or sat transfixed in front of the TV watching the Flying Squirrel make history. In fact, that’s probably what inspired your kiddos to channel their inner squirrel by jumping from furniture to furniture. Well, you don’t need to wait four years until the next Olympics (which seems like a lifetime to kids) or purchase a ticket to Rio when you can check out gymnastics in your own back yard. Head on down to Bruin territory to watch the UCLA Women’s Gymnastics team in action. You just might see the next Gabby Douglass while you’re there!

The lowdown:

  1. Witness first-hand competitive gymnastics at its finest as the Bruins come head-to-head with other collegiate teams.
  2. Take in the newly remodeled Pauley Pavilion, which seats nearly 14,000 spectators. So, there’s plenty of room to invite lots of friends.
  3. Meet UCLA’s beloved mascot – the Bruin Bear. Make sure to have your camera ready to snap some great pics of your kiddos getting a bear hug. Literally.
  4. Following each meet, get up close and personal with the athletes. You’ll also receive a poster for the athletes to autograph.
  5. Meet the UCLA Women’s Gymnastics Head Coach, Valorie Kondos. Be prepared– she just may want to recruit your kiddo right out of elementary school.
  6. If you forget to pack snacks you can always pick them up at concession stands. Don’t worry, you’ll find kid friendly fare that will satisfy even the most finicky little spectator.
  7. Leave the strollers at home; you don’t want to lug that sucker up the bleachers.
  8. You can park on campus ($11 per vehicle) within walking distance to the Pavilion.

The schedule:
Sunday, March 10 – UCLA vs. Michigan/California/Iowa State, 2:00pm

Guests are invited to dress up as their favorite super hero, athlete or role model; there will be ticket giveaways and the Bruin Bear mascots will have a dance off with other local mascots.

Sunday, March 17 – UCLA vs. Arkansas, 2:00pm
Got Blue? Support the Bruins by arriving in head-to-toe blue. The Bruins will also be hosting Bruin School Days by offering complimentary group tickets to local elementary schools and junior high schools.
