In 2013, there’s no shortage of great kid’s music being made in the city and so this list could easily be twice or three times as long! That said, here are, unequivocally, the 10 local kindie bands and artists you as a parent need to know about right this minute. All of them have new(ish) albums out now or a CD soon to be released, and each perform live in the city regularly.

Tim and the Space Cadets / Little Rock-Its

Tim Kubart, the frontman of Tim and the Space Cadets, is kindie rock's resident heartthrob as well as the band leader of Frolic's in-house rock school band, Little Rock-Its. With the Cadets, Kubart writes ambitious, arena-worthy pop-rock songs about universal childhood themes like grade school theater shows, parades and superhero play.

Vered

Songs for the tiniest music lovers rarely sound as gorgeous as they do on Vered's strong debut album Good Morning My Love, the arc of which follows a typical journey of a baby and her new parents during that bewildering yet magical first year.

Astrograss

Because everything sounds better with a banjo, this Brooklyn bluegrass band makes music that is both whimsical and old-timey with authentic renditions of classics saddling up beside terrific originals like the title track to their 2012 CD, The Colored Pencil Factory.
