It’s so Brooklyn that it’s possible you and the kids could emerge from the shop wrapped in macrame, buzzing from small-batch kombucha, with a staghorn fern mysteriously emerging from some crevice on your person. That said: you should absolutely go there as soon as you can because it’s so cool and so fun. What’s a Tattly? For the uninitiated, Tattly is a temporary tattoo company founded in 2011 by designer (and parent) Tina Roth Eisenberg AKA Swissmiss, who was less than impressed with the selection of commitment-free ink available to her kids (and others, of course). Her solution?: She enlisted friends and colleagues in the worlds of illustration and design to create art for temporary tattoos, and the results were fun, cool, beautiful, whimsical and smart. (Not to mention a big hit.)The company now offers over 600 designs by more than 100 artists and illustrators from around the world, all of whom receive a royalty from the sale of their Tattly designs. Artists on the Tattly roster include Julia Rothman, Oliver Jeffers of The Days the Crayons Quit and more fame and stationery darlings Rifle Paper Company. The ParlorLocated inside the lofty gallery and event space The Invisible Dog, the Tattly Parlor is outfitted like a classic tattoo shop, with barber-shop style chairs for application, a neon sign, and potential designs displayed throughout the space. Groovy touches include a velvet loveseat, a sputnik chandelier and industrial decor accents.Customers are welcome to come and browse designs and purchase tattoos for application later, or opt for application on site (using Tattly-branded sponge and bottle of water, of course.) If you want to get really serious about your temporary body art, you can book a Tattly Parlor experience, which includes a consultation, tattoos and application. Yes, full-sleeve application is available! (A child experience includes up to five designs for $15; adult appointments include up to eight designs for $30.) E-mail appointments@tattly.com to book a Tattly Parlor Experience. The TattoosWe can almost guarantee you and the kids will find something you love here; about 200 Tattly designs will be available at any given time at the parlor, with inventory rotating to showcase different tattoos in the company’s catalog.Designs range from NYC-inspired illustrations (think pigeon, pizza, taxi) to iconic MTA subway line circles, to faux watches and “charm” bracelets, to loads of silly, fun, cute critters and characters. More refined tatts include delicate metallics, florals, fonts and a new line of designs in the hand-poke style from Brooklyn-based artist Tea Leigh. The tattoos are available individually for $5 (which includes two of the same tattoo), or in sets of eight designs, which also include a Tattly application sponge for $15.All of Tattly’s tattoos are safe and non-toxic, FDA compliant and made in the U.S.A. (except for the gold Tattlys, but they’re working on that). You can check out all of Tattly’s designs here. The Tattly Temporary Tattoo parlor 51 Bergen St. Tues. – Sun., Noon- 7 p.m. Now Through February 2016 Online: temporarytattooparlor.com Do you have a favorite Tattly design?
