Ah, New York. So full of creative types — including, it turns out, your kid! If you’ve got a little one more interested in sewing than soccer, pumped for origami not overnights, or way into weaving instead of water sports, check out these summer camps for all kinds of artisans. With the right planning, June, July and August will each offer their own handmade project experience and by the time September rolls around, you’ll have a school year’s worth of unique birthday presents in your closet! For Dream Weavers: Discovering Textiles

In the Discovering Textiles camp run by Brooklyn’s Textile Arts Center, campers try their hand at printing, felting, sewing, weaving, and dyeing and create finished projects every week. Adding to the experience is a weekly weaving field trip to the Textile Arts Center Brooklyn where kids will work on ancient machines to create their very own contemporary fabric. An open house concludes each weekly session and family and friends are invited to view projects. Have older kids? TAC offers camps for kids 7-12, too.
