We may not be within a stone’s throw of anything even close to a silo, barn or haystack, but thanks to some very innovative chefs and restaurant owners, the farms are coming to us. Happily, New Yorkers have embraced the local food movement in a big way — and farm-to-table dining isn’t just for adults. Flip through for 9 of the city’s top farm-to-table restaurants that welcome diners of all ages.

Friend Of a Farmer Brooklyn

Gramercy's Friend of a Farmer was one of the pioneers in the NYC farm to table scene, and now the restaurant has a counterpart across the river in Brooklyn Heights. The eatery is somewhat ironically located in a bi-level space previously occupied by furniture company Design Within Reach; its interior, decorated with raw wood, farmhouse-style hanging lamps and rich, tapestry-like wallpaper feels like the antithesis of the modern housewares retailer. In addition to four (!) fireplaces, a charming outdoor space and bushels of produce artfully displayed throughout the lovely interior, you'll find a menu with creative sandwiches, salads and tasty brunch items, as well as kid-friendly items like roast chicken, chicken pot pie, burgers and sides like fries and bacon mac n cheese. The restaurant also serves "Farmers Garden in a Glass" juices that range from super healthy to fruity as well as "artisan-crafted whole leaf tea pouches."
