Sweet Stuff: NYC Area Maple Sugaring Spots

Read next

An outing to see how maple syrup is made combines many of our favorite things: the first signs of spring, fresh air with the family, a double-hitter of education (science and history) and, of course, tasting the sweet stuff — sometimes even with pancakes. We found a maple sugaring outing for all tastes, from back-to-basics demonstrations at nature preserves to full-on fests and pancake brunches. Click on through to find your sweet spot!

For a Fest with Teen Chefs: Stamford Museum and Nature Center

A maple sugaring extravaganza will take place at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center on March 4 and 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The 2017 edition of the annual Maple Sugar Festival Weekend will of course give guests the chance to see how maple syrup is tapped and made, but that’s just the beginning. Other activities include maple-themed crafts, face painting and live music. On Saturday from 11:30 – 1:30 p.m. a Teen Chef Challenge will find young cooks making dishes with maple syrup (and the crowd voting on the best of them), while Sunday will feature a pancake brunch from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. for an additional $6. An added bonus: the Center is also home to “Hecksher WILD!” — an interactive exotic animal exhibit.
