Whirlwind Re-do: Mary Olive Design

If it's time you're up against, a 90-minute consultation may be all you need to kickstart a change or clarify what your project is. Mary Olive Design promises a dynamic, in-home, one-on-one that provides you a set of design notes to use as a springboard for your makeover. For $300, owner Mary Van Vliet will have you moving furniture and artwork as well as brainstorming and trouble-shooting during your consultation. (She's been known to rip the skirt off a couch slipcover once or twice.) It's up to you whether you focus on a small area in detail or sweep through your entire space.  A few days later you'll get design notes with suggestions for next steps.  You can then decide what to do with the blueprint — in some cases that's enough for clients to go it alone; for others, Van Vliet can help implement the plans in line with a budget. An additional resource available is her blog, which is stuffed with notes on practical design and ideas for the creative repurposing of pieces.
