Mom does it all: homework helper, chauffeur, food prep, and that’s all with logging hours at work and making time to play. Which is why Mother’s Day is the right time to give mom a few hours off and let her soak, steam and relax her cares away. Read on to find out where you can send mom to rejuvenate for her special day (and moms, please forward this on to drop the hint).

Blooming Moon Wellness Spa
For the new mama or mama-to-be, head over to the all-female staffed Blooming Moon Wellness Spa, located in a large old house in North Portland. The “Pampered Mama Package” includes a one hour pregnancy or aromatherapy massage, head and neck treatment, mini facial and pedicure all for $235. For relaxing on a budget, let mom enjoy being pampered during the “weekday happy hour” offered every Tuesday through Friday. She’ll get a half hour aromatherapy Epsom salt foot soak and foot massage for only $35, plus includes wine and a cheese plate!

Sole2Sole Foot Reflexology and Massage
Let’s face it, half of the reason we get a pedicure is really for the foot massage! Ditch the pedi and indulge mom with a full-on, sixty minute foot soak and massage, that also includes arms and hands. Portland’s best-kept secret is this tiny reflexology shop that is conveniently located on Killingsworth in North Portland, and for $40 for an hour-long foot reflexology massage, the value can’t be beat!

Hours: Mon-Sat 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Sun 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Aloe Wellness + Spa
Relaxing alone is great, but sometimes mom just wants to hang with friends! Treat her to a day of walking around the Northwest shopping district, and then send her to Aloe Wellness + Spa where a group of three can unwind in a thirty minute foot soak for only $32, or let her and four of her besties enjoy in an hour of pampering for $50.

SANTÉ Aesthetics and Wellness
Does mom need more energy to help keep up with the littles, and life in general? Head over to SANTÉ in NW Portland, where an hour-long reiki session costs $90. Reiki is an alternative medicine originating in Japan, where a therapist is said to channel energy through touch. SANTÉ also has a hot soaking pool, cool dip pool, steam room, and a UV light room which can be added to any service for $15 or $25 for a day pass.

The best solution to school year blues is a trip to Löyly, which is a sauna modeled after those found in Scandinavia. Sauna-goers relax in the steam for 10-20 minutes, followed by a rinse off in cold water. Repeat as many times as you wish during your $23 session. While Löyly has more spartan than a “day spa”, it allows for deep relaxation and quietude. Check locations for gender-specific hours.

Hours: Sun-Sat 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.

Everett House Healing Center
For a truly unique experience, let mom try “flotation” at the Everett House Healing Center. Flotation takes place in a tank of water filled with 800 pounds of Epson salt, which reduces gravity and allows the body to float in a dark and silent space. While this may not be for everybody, some mamas may relish in the chance to be in a silent space for 90 minutes. The service is also said to reduce swelling and blood pressure, increase circulation, and decrease lactic acid. Floats are by appointment only and cost $60.
