Battleground Lake State Park

Run by Washington State, this park stretches for 280 acres and holds hiking, biking, and horse trails. But all you need is directly by the water: a playground, grass, over 70 picnic tables, shallows for splashing, and two reservable shelters with kitchens. It’s all surrounded by tall trees, sheltering the deep blue lake.

Insider tip: Portland Parks and Recreation runs most of the parks in the city—all the covered picnic shelters and BBQ grills can be rented through them. Outside of that, all parks have tables that are first-come first serve. Day-use fees notes where applicable. Get out there and chow down!
