Eating healthy food like fruits and veggies is an important part of staying fit, of course, but so is exercise. Show your kids that being active is not only fun, but that it can also be a way to save electricity, with Moberi’s bike-powered smoothies. Less than a minute of pedaling helps make your smoothie—berry, protein, green or superfood—and your kiddos get to work off a little energy, too. Win-win! If you don’t feel like pedaling, the staff will happily blend your smoothie for you in the kitchen.

Open: Daily, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of Hawthorne, there’s a stately-yet-kid-friendly respite in this vegan-friendly, gluten-free establishment. The list of smoothies is impressive (we hear good things about the strawberry-avocado with maca, date and hemp seeds), but you’ll be just as glad to see a 12-ounce peanut butter and jelly smoothie on the kids’ menu. You can find similar menus at Harlow’s sister restaurants, Prasad and Prasad East.

Open: Mon.-Sat. 8 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sun. 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
3632 SE Hawthorne Blvd.

Sip-Joshua C-Yelp

Canteen is the brick-and-mortar evolution of the Sip Juice cart that started a “vegan milkshake” revolution a few years ago. Juice and smoothie options aren’t a mile long, but they’re popular for a reason. Kids will love that the “Orange One” is like a creamsicle, with orange and vanilla, and you’ll be glad it’s naturally sweetened with banana and dates. Everything here is vegan.

Open: Daily, 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
2816 SE Stark St.

Sip Juice Cart
The Sip Juice Carts are also going strong, with the original location near People’s Co-op on SE 21st, and Northeast Portland location on Alberta. Smoothies are made with agave, but you can sub in dates for free. People’s Co-op has a year-round farmer’s market every Wednesday, so you can pick up farm fresh produce and enjoy a smoothie at the same time.

Open: Daily, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
2210 NE Alberta St., 503-680-5639
3029 SE 21st Ave., 503-964-0820

Poa Cafe
Poa is one of those great meeting places for parent and child alike, with food and drinks, WiFi, and indoor and outdoor play areas for the little ones. Smoothies tend toward more adult flavors (matcha, anyone?), but there’s a wide selection, including an apple pear smoothie with hazelnut milk, apples, pears, nutmeg, ginger and cinnamon. There’s even a selection of smoothies available in kid-size for $5 and their menu includes vegan, GF and Paleo diet options, to boot.

Open: Sun.- Thur. 8 a.m.-6 p.m.,  Fri.-Sat. 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
4025 N Williams St.

Laughing Planet
All smoothies at Laughing Planet are sweetened with fruit and juice only, and no ice, either. Each one is reasonably priced at $4.75, and there are even kids’ smoothies at just $3 a pop. How about an Akina Berry Peach Smoothie with blueberries, strawberries, peach and apple juice, or Baati Mango Banana Smoothie with mango, banana and pineapple juice? Each one is served up in a casual atmosphere, often decorated with toys. Nine locations in Portland mean that you’re never too far away from a sweet healthy treat.

Hours vary by location. Most are open 11 a.m.- 9 p.m.

There’s also a banana-nutella if you’re feeling a bit more decadent. If you want a savory or sweet crepe to go with that smoothie, kid-size crepes are $1 regular price.
