Valentine’s Day is about more that wooing and cooing—more than expensive dinners and chocolates. It’s a great opportunity to show your kids how to express their love and appreciation for parents, friends, grandparents, and even special teachers. For valentines with heart, it makes sense to look beyond store-bought items to more heartfelt mementos you make by hand. Here are several opportunities to craft valentines with your child and enjoy the holiday as a family.

Valentine Fun at Portland Libraries
Have a love-ly time creating heart-felt cards and crafts. Free. Ages 3 and up. First come, first served.
February 7th, Belmont Library, 3:15 pm – 4:40 pm.
February 9th, Sellwood-Moreland Library, 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm
February 9th, Hollywood Library, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Tot Thursday: Crafts and Stories at Hopworks
Every second Thursday of the month, Hopworks BikeBar is hosting a children’s activity and storytime with light, healthy snacks in our dining room (which also has a terrific play area). This month, Tot Thursday falls on Valentine’s Day!
February 14th, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. Free. Toddlers.

Copper Wire Hearts at North Portland Library
Artist Kathleen Karbo will show you how to create a one-of-a-kind valentine using copper wire, pipe cleaners, and colorful beads and ornaments. Gain experience with hammers, anvils and needle-nose pliers.
February 9th. 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. Ages 5 and up.

Valentine Crafting Party at Beaverton Library
Make some valentines for those you love at the City Library Branch.
February 13th. 4:00 – 5:00 pm. Ages 2-11.

Lovey Babies Dance at Beaverton Library
Make a valentine and take the rare opportunity to dance your heart out to Valentine tunes in this normally hushed setting.
February 14th.10:30 am – 11:30 am. Ages 0-6.

Create Heart Animals at Lake Oswego Library
Come create your favorite animal out of paper hearts and borrow some new reads.
Tuesday, February 12 or Wednesday, February 13 at 11:00 a.m. Ages 3-5. Pre-registration appreciated.

Portland Waldorf School: Valentine’s Day Tea Party

Bring your little valentines for a puppet show and a morning of play, crafts and refreshment at this annual event.
February 12th, 10:00 am -11:30 am. Free. Ages 2-6.

Family Valentine’s Party
Bring your family to a very special Valentine’s Night at Out of this World Pizza in Hillsboro! Fill up on pizza, salad and dessert before you dance and play the night away with our DJ hosted Stellar Play and Valentine’s dance.
