Creekside Park in Greenbrae Gets a Makeover

Trending Now

Ready for a trip to Marin’s gorgeous brand new playground? Hal Brown Park, built on the old Creekside Park site, was officially opened earlier this year, and is already a family favorite. The only thing that hasn’t changed there is the lovely view of Mount Tam and the surrounding hills.

When to go: Anytime. If it’s warm enough, enjoy lunch at one of the many picnic tables there.

What’s at the park: A nature-themed tot area with California Clapper Rail nest sculptures, spinning bowls, a turbo slide, sand and water play areas, a tricycle track complete with traffic signs, a climbing wall, swings, and a 17ft. spider web climber. There’s also a sports field, clean new restrooms and water fountains, and an overlook over the marshes from which to watch herons and egrets.

Travel time: Greenbrae is located 16 miles north of San Francisco. The park is opposite Marin General Hospital and street parking is available. The bike path makes the park easily accessible from Corte Madera, Larkspur and southern Marin, as well as Ross and towns further west.

Lunch options: For quick kid-friendly fare, try Noah’s Bagels or the surf-themed restaurant Wipeout, both at the nearby Bon Air Shopping Center. For some local Marin flavor and a sit-down meal, try Woodlands Market Cafe or the Half Day Cafe, a quick trip down the bike path towards Ross (or a short drive down College Ave).

How to dress: Bring an extra layer for cool or windy weather.

Bonus: Stop by Ben & Jerry’s or Susie Cakes Bakery at Bon Air for one of their delectable cupcakes.

Cost of trip: Inexpensive
