It’s not your mother’s mall. This downtown behemoth has morphed into a one-stop shopping mecca, making it our go-to place for the holidays, even with the little ones in tow. There’s enough diversions to make you forget you’re there to shop, but also stores galore for when it’s time to buckle down and pick out something for those “hard-to-shop-for” people. Pick up Parisian designs for the kids at Jacadi, too-cute play clothes at Gymboree, special occasion ensembles at Janie and Jack, or Scandinavian-inspired pieces at Oilily or H&M.

It’s located right near the entrance to the Powell Street BART, so it’s convenient for shoppers heading anywhere downtown. There are changing stations a-plenty, and when you’re ready to re-emerge, changed, cleaned, and refreshed, you’ll find yourself in quite possibly the universe’s best food court. Reward them with a pork bun from Out the Door, or split a cream puff from Beard Papa. Then hustle to get those last few items (Abercrombie for the college-bound nephew, Brookstone for your on-the-go father-in-law, and, if everyone’s still holding strong, Bloomie’s or Reiss for you.
