Sophisticated Family Brunch is Found at Foreign Cinema

Trending Now

Ah, brunch. The days of waking up at 10 and nursing a headache with omelettes and bottomless mimosas are a distant memory, but there’s no reason you can’t introduce your kids to the concept of a magical meal that takes place later than the typical utilitarian breakfast. Just make sure they eat a little something early, then shuffle the fam down to the Mission’s Foreign Cinema for a decadent dining experience.

Reservations are recommended, or else you’ll battle hungover neighborhood denizens for a table. The back patio provides an experience that’s a sophisticated urban oasis. Once seated, the kids will be handed some crayons and a coloring book made up of pages from The Larousse Treasury of Country Cooking.

You’ll want to order up some oysters to get started, along with an Indian-spiced bloody mary—and we recommend following that with the eggs fried with balsamic vinegar. Kids get a $10 three-course prix fixe menu, which caps off with two scoops of ice cream topped with whipped cream. Everyone goes home happy, satiated on both food and culture. 2534 Mission Street, between 21st and 22nd. 415-648-7600,
