Be sure to check out a brand-new parenting book by Seattle husband and wife duo, Kerry Colburn and Rob Sorenson. Hot off the presses, their collaboration How to Have Your Second Child First: 100 Things That Are Good to Know…the First Time Around is a light-hearted (but totally useful read) for new parents. The authors, Ballard parents of two young girls, hope the book helps new parents breathe a little easier. The 100 new-parent tips are similar to the chatter and experience one would glean from a mom’s group with parents who have BTDT (been there, done that)—all packed into a fun-to-read book. The authors interviewed plenty of experienced parents locally, around the country, and even in Canada and were surprised by how universal parenting really is. Because the book is co-authored by a dad, plenty of topics appeal to fathers, too. You’ll find tips on everything from embracing delivery services to sex-drive challenges and everything in between.Meet the authors in person this week at Queen Anne Books on Thursday, May 13 at 6:30pm or on June 9th at a PEPS lecture in Wallingford. You can find the book in person at Queen Anne Books, Secret Garden in Ballard, on Amazon and other local bookstores. PS: Check out one of their past collaborations, Daddy Lotto, a book of scratch tickets, for Father’s Day! We also want to give a shout out for Just Let Me Lie Down: Necessary Terms For The Half-Insane Working Mom, by Kristin van Ogtrop, the editor at Real Simple magazine. We attended her book lecture at the Woodmark in Kirkland last week and it’s safe to say she had a roomful of ladies captivated by her tales of juggling motherhood with working. You’ll laugh at the essays and relevant catch phrases organized alphabetically throughout the book such as “Nanny Envy”, “Not on the menu”, and our favorite…staging a “Coup de Moi”! -Angie J.
