While Seattle has its fair share of sunshine, it also has (more than) its fair share of what seems to be endless cloudy days. When it seems like the clouds and rain won’t ever go away or when the sunshine is so bright it leaves you longing for a tropical vacation, cozy up to one (or all) of these Hawaiian restaurants and let your mind and your taste buds relax in the comforts of island-inspired cuisine.

Bobby’s Hawaiian Style Restaurant

Wander just a bit off the beaten path and find yourself among the Hawaiian family you never knew you had. Once you walk into Bobby’s Hawaiian Style Restaurant in Lynnwood, you will feel a sense of home and Ohana (which is Hawaiian for Family) while dining amid people who were mere strangers moments before. The experience continues in the form of Island Flavor, a band headed by restaurant owner Bobby Nakihei. The tunes flow through the restaurant with a carefree fervor that will get you in the mood for good eats.

If the lure of camaraderie and island vibe doesn’t get you in the door, take Guy Fieri’s word for it. The Diners Drive Ins and Dives host visited Bobby’s Hawaiian Style restaurant for an insider look and to get a taste of the longtime family recipes. On the top of the list? The Lomi Salmon. This fresh tomato and salted salmon dish is typically served as a side dish or appetizer, and will be the perfect springboard for your smorgasbord of food to come. In fact, the recipe can be found online, courtesy of Bobby Nakihei, on the Food Network website so you can amaze your friends during your next dinner party.

True to its roots, the lunch and dinner plates are served with a heaping portion of rice and mac salad, so make sure to pack your appetite. Bobby's has a wide selection of mouthwatering dishes, and since its hard to pick just one, try the Combo Plate and get a bit of everything! These plates are perfect to share with the kiddos and come with your choice of two items including teriyaki, mochiko chicken, kalua pork or kalbi ribs (definitely go for the kalbi - you won't be disappointed). For the more traditional Hawaiian plate, go for the Kalua Pork; an oven roasted succulent pork dish served among a bed of cabbage. The attention put into the components of each dish makes it evident that your new friends don't want you to leave hungry and most likely you won't.

Finish off your palate with a slice of cake (from Cakes of Paradise) and a scoop of ice cream (flavors rotate - so come back often to try them all).

Good to Know: Lunchtime can be busy, so plan accordingly. Call ahead and place an order to go to beat the rush.
