Whether it’s Monopoly, Hungry Hungry Hippos or Chutes and Ladders, the winter months are a great time to unplug and enjoy a board game with the fam. And playing together in a warm community atmosphere just adds to the fun—you can try new games, revisit some old faves or play with other families. Before you pass GO, check out our favorite game shops. Psst… They all have friendly staff who will help you find just the right game and teach you how to play it. Score!

Gameporium at Uptown Espresso

Gameporium in West Seattle is often packed with families rolling dice, shuffling cards, and pretending to be dwarves from an ancient realm - all while sipping hot chocolate and frozen lattes, and nibbling on homemade shortbread. Gameporium is a game shop within a coffee shop. Owned by Uptown Espresso, it offers hundreds of games to play. Current family faves are Concept (actually for ages 10 & older, but many younger kids are hooked on it too), King of Tokyo, and Ticket to Ride. For the littler ones Feed the Kitty, Hisss, and Race to the Treasure are big hits.

Insider Tip: Gameporium hosts regular kids' game mornings; perfect for those winter days when it's just too cold and wet to go to the park.
