Celebrate Passover with Cool Events Around Town

The Jewish holiday of Passover (or Pesach) is one of the most kid-friendly of the Jewish holidays. It begins this year at sundown Monday, April 3. The holiday celebrates Moses and the exodus of the Jews from slavery in Egypt, and is told during a traditional seder dinner complete with symbols of the holiday. There are lots of ways to get the kiddos involved in the holiday if you’re celebrating at home. But if you prefer to take the holiday outside your kitchen and living room, check out one of these Southern California Passover events.

Celebrate Passover – Model Matzah Bakery
Celebrate Passover by visiting Pretend City and learning about this Jewish holiday by participating in the Matzah Bakery! Silver Gan Israel Day Camp will share the traditions with all guests on this special day, giving kids the opportunity to dig into the dough as they produce flour from wheat kernels, winnow and separate the chaff from the grain. They will collect the grain into a wheat mill and grind it into flour, and then knead, roll, and bake the dough into a handmade matzah. Kids will take home their very own freshly baked matzah, a holiday guide and a baker’s hat. March 25, 3:30 – 4:15 pm, Pretend City. More info.

Passover Seder for Young Families
Young adults and kids are invited to an intimate Seder with Congregation Beth Israel’s Rabbi Michael Satz. The Seder will include a delicious catered dinner and Haggadot will be provided. This event is family-friendly, and a great way to celebrate Passover with other young kids and parents. Apr. 14, 6:30 – 9 pm, Congregation Beth Israel. More info.

Community Passover Potluck Lunch
Celebrate the ending of Passover at Congregation Beth El. Hang out with friends, schmooze and enjoy matzah one last time. This community event is open to families and young kids who want to enjoy Passover at a synagogue and make new friends. A festival service will take place before the lunch at 9:30 am. Apr. 22, 12 pm, Congregation Beth El. More info.
