A Sunset Beach Trip

With so many beaches up and down the coast line of San Diego, your visitors will be spoiled for choice. But if you want to maximize bang for your buck then take a trip to Windansea Beach. It's one of San Diego's best-looking beaches but avoids being a tourist trap unlike other sea spots. Bring down a picnic basket and pull up a pew on the small sandy beach or pick a rock to perch on along the rugged coast line. As you watch the sun set into the sea, you'll be able to be at one with nature which people play on the beach, power walk along the path or cut up a sunset surfing session. Your guests will keep on thinking about this spot well and truly after they are home. On-street parking is available and free, but expect that you may need to park in a residential street and walk down. Restrooms are not available, so make sure everyone's had their bathroom break before hand.

Fun Facts to Tell Your Guests:

  • Notice those fierce waves at Windansea? It's thanks to the underwater reefs and jutting rocks sitting in the water.
  • Windansea is known for its handmade palm-covered shack that sits on the rocks. Legend has it it was built in the late 40's by local surfers and was the location of Polynesian luau beach parties.
  • Windansea got its name after the now defunct "Windansea" Hotel that sat on Neptune Ave in 1919
