The Most Walkable Cities in the US Are an Adventurous Family’s Dream Come True

The best way to discover a city, whether it’s your own or one you’re visiting, is on foot. A new survey has ranked cities across the country to compile a list of the best places in the country to go for a stroll. Pack up your strollers and baby carriers and check out the list below.

Smart Growth America’s Foot Traffic Ahead, a survey of the country’s most walkable urban areas, ranked the top 30 most walkable cities. Using the data compiled, the rankings were determined based on a few common factors, like proximity to businesses, dining, and entertainment, as well as access to public transit and multi-family rentals.

The top ten cities for 2017 are:

  1. New York City
  2. Washington D.C.
  3. Boston
  4. Chicago
  5. San Francisco
  6. Seattle
  7. Portland
  8. Pittsburgh
  9. Denver
  10. Philadelphia
