The iconic doll is coming to a movie theater near you—and it’s not yet-another animated flick, either. The first live-action Barbie movie is set to hit the silver screen—and it’s starring Mary Queen of Scots actress Margot Robbie!
Warner Bros. and Mattel recently announced their Barbie movie collab, giving the blonde beauty a live-action movie of her very own. And who better to play the oh-so-perfect doll but Robbie? They could honestly pass as twins. Toby Emmerich, chairman of Warner Bros. Picture Group, agrees. In a statement, Emmerich said, “Margot is the ideal producer and actress to bring Barbie to life on screen in a fresh and relevant way for today’s audiences.”
Did you catch that? Robbie isn’t just a pretty face. She’s also co-producing the film. Robbie noted in a press statement, “I’m so honored to take on this role and produce a film that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide. I can’t imagine better partners than Warner Bros and Mattel to bring this film to the big screen.”
So when can you catch Barbie on the big screen? It looks like we’ll have to wait a while. The film isn’t yet in production, so no release date or title as of now. But at least the important groundwork is there with a green-lit film and its titular star!
