Secret Attractions at Your Favorite Museums

If your weekend routine is starting to resemble a tourist checklist — belugas at the Shedd, U-505 sub at the MSI, Sue at The Field — then it’s time to dig deeper into our fair city. There’s nothing like a hidden gem to excite a field trip. Click through our album of uncrowded, secret spots tucked in your favorite places and let the fun begin.

Shadow Puppets at DuPage Children’s Museum

Located in the Creativity Connections neighborhood — a mini museum in itself — the Shadow Exhibit lets kids dance and freeze their shadows in variety of rainbow hues. If that’s not enough, the museum has also hidden "Power Plays," which pop-up in the exhibits throughout the day. You could easily find yourself navigating a laser beam through a path with mirrors, sculpting with clay or having your portrait painted by a visiting artist.

Hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. weekly, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekends.
301 N. Washington St., Naperville
